Glitch the Art of Malfunction

Glitch is one of my favorite visual styles. The way technology malfunctions has always been interesting to me. I get a strange satisfaction when the tracking on VHS tape is off or composite cables on an old video game console fail to connect. The artifacts and distortion caused by these vintage machines has an electronic patina unmatched by modern machines. Static on the radio and television gives them a quality of mystery. You can almost hear the moaning wales of the ghosts in the machine.

Processing is a java framework for creative coding. It opens a world of possibilities for computer media. It creates an easy to use canvass for programmatic visuals. What that means is pretty much infinite. It opens the doors to generative art where data science and multimedia meet to show us a new way of understanding information. It makes it easy to translate arithmetic and geometric concepts into visualizations.

GenerateMe is a library of processing sketches used for the creation of glitch art. This library uses the Processing 2 IDE. The current processing version is Processing 4. However, the instructions on the github repo for translating the scripts to Processing 3 will also successfully convert the scripts the to Processing 4.

I feel like i have only scratched the surface of the potential of these processing sketches. They give me a whole new way the to explore my photography. They give me another layer of key considerations when developing my photographs.
