Cities of silicon
I’ve continued to venture into the exciting frontier of 3D computer graphics. Furthermore, I’ve been experimenting with modeling retro futuristic technology for a project. Computers are interesting to me for their function However beneath the chassis there is a living world of circuit boards. Moreover, they are like miniature cities driven to utility by the will of larger agencies. For instance, urban infrastructure like lanes, traffic, towers, ports, and banks, are all present in computers. In other words, technology is a microcosm reflecting the greater reality. Computers and cities are both circuitous systems using energy to produce output.
Circuitous
I produced a procedural circuit texture In Blender that is satisfying to experiment with. Therefore, I’ve rendered a few different variations of this pattern. Firstly, I played with was color. The discordant colors make these scenic micro vistas vibrate with an insectile quality. Secondly, I adjusted the metallic and hard plastic properties of the texture. Then I tweaked the frequency and repetition of the lines. They create geometric patterns receptive to pareidolia. Additionally, the intricately faceted lanes of the surface make for a perfect focal point in macro photo style renders. There are plethora of patterns to observe. Areas that are out of focus are equally interesting because of the repetitive patterns that bleed into the areas of the image in focus.
