Under the Blood Red Moon

Drawing water color and pen and ink Under the blood red moon

Between Three Pillars

This drawing is on 7x10in mixed media paper. It was drawn with a felt tip pen and colored with water color.

Under the Blood Red Moon started with one goal in mind. I wanted to draw more pillars with drapery. I started this theme in The New King. It was satisfying to draw the wrinkles and paint the shadows in the folds I wanted to try it again. I don’t think that I was quiet as successful in making the pigment varied on the drapery this time.

Under the Blood Red Moon is another time I have been disappointed with the way the subtlety of water color is lost when it is digitized. Much of the detail in the original is de-saturated or altered in the scan.

The best part of this drawing is the concept. I liked the idea of the pillars but had felt like they needed a purpose. So I put geometric solids on the tops of the them.
