Under the sea is my second drawing of 2019. It continues my resolution to spend multiple days on projects. This project stretched out over the course of January. I worked on it in between other shorter simpler sketches. This drawing also continues my series of Jellyfish I began towards the end of 2018. This is the first drawing in my new sketchbook where I feel I have solved medium of the 7x10in canvas.
I am still trying to master the media of water color. I have begun to get a knack for layering the pigment to suggest form however I still struggle to pick the correct brush for the job. The consequence is that the larger areas that are filled in come through blotchy.
The inking was done with a generic Chinese felt tip pen. the same one used in the dark outline on “The Familly Tree” This drawing is an improvement over that last drawing but I still have along way to go. Someone once told me style is the residue of failure and practice.
